Windham Fire Company Auction and BBQ
August 11th —- come for a great time and good BBQ
Windham’s Chicken BBQ! July 14, 5 PM
The Windham Community Organization’s Annual Chicken BBQ and Raffle begins promptly at 5 PM, Saturday, July 14 at the historic Windham Meeting House, 26 Harrington Road, Windham, on the corner of Windham Hill Road. Summed up as “the perfect old-fashioned community BBQ with really good food, great friends and nice country music,” the Windham BBQ will be serving up Walter Woodruff’s own “Special Recipe” BBQ chicken cooked “to perfection” over a wood fire. Baked beans, potato salad, green salad, homemade sweet breads, corn bread, and for dessert, homemade strawberry shortcake topped with fresh whipped cream, are all included for the bargain price of $10/adult, $5/child or $25/family. Be sure to get there early and try your luck on our raffle of crafts created by talented Windham artisans, and enjoy music by our own Windham musicians. Look for the big tent outside the Windham Congregational Church/Meeting House. All proceeds benefit Windham area residents through WCO.
Independence Day parades and fireworks
Here is the schedule of fireworks and parades for this Independence Day.
SUNDAY, JULY 1 –
STRATTON, VT– Celebrate summer and Independence Day at Stratton. Don’t miss the fireworks held Sunday, July 1 at 9:15 p.m. in the Main Base area at 5 Village Lodge Rd. We love our furry friends, and they are welcome at this event. Please keep in mind that this event can get crowded and loud, especially during the fireworks. If there is any chance that your pet may scare easily or feel uncomfortable in this environment, please keep them in the safety of your home.
TUESDAY, JULY 3 –
GRAFTON, VT – The 2018 TD Bank Summer Festival tour will come to Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center, 783 Townshend, Rd., Tuesday, July 3 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks to finish out the evening. VSO celebrates the gifts of nature through music with guest conductor, Sarah Hicks. While smoking and animals are not allowed at the show, we encourage you to bring a picnic blanket, folding chairs, and to dance the night away under the stars. Flashlights are also suggested to help you find your way back to your car after the sun has set. For more information, contact 802-843-2400.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 4 –
LUDLOW, VT – The Town of Ludlow will host a fireworks display Wednesday, July 4. The fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m. at the West Hill Recreation area. A concert featuring Chris Kleeman will begin at 7 p.m., with the fireworks to follow.
MOUNT HOLLY, VT – Independence Day parade takes place Wednesday, July 4, in Belmont, Vt. Parade starts at 11 a.m. in Belmont Village. Following the parade will be a barbecue at 11:30 a.m. until gone at the Odd Fellows Hall next to Star Lake. Music will be provided by Jeb Porter and Friends. Join the cow flop 50/50 raffle to benefit Kids Kamp Scholarship Fund for a chance to win up to $720. Liberty the Cow will select the winner.
SATURDAY, JULY 7 –
LONDONDERRY, VT – The Independence Day celebration starts Saturday, July 7 with the parade at 11 a.m. The parade begins at the State garage and ends at the Mountain Marketplace Plaza. Following the parade, the Londonderry Lions Club holds their annual Duck Race in the river behind Garden Market and Jelly’s Deli. At 1 p.m., Ida Mae Specker will be playing on Jake’s Deck. From 7 to 11 p.m. Goofy Foot band will be at Magic Mountain. There will be a beer and wine garden outside with a live band, the grill will be fired up and fried dough truck on the premises. The fireworks show will kick off at dark -9:15 or 9:30. Parking will be in the main lots.
SPRINGFIELD, VT – Fireworks will take place at Crown Point Country Club in Springfield on Saturday, July 7. This event is sponsored by Kelley Sales and Service in Springfield. The rain date is July 8.
Caution – West Nile Virus found in area
Five mosquito pools in Springfield tested positive for West Nile Virus recently. WNV is considered widespread in Vermont, and is spread through the bite of infected mosquitos. Most people who contract it will suffer from a flu-like illness, but some can become seriously ill with neurological symptoms. Treatment is supportive. Therefore, everyone should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, especially on these lovely summer evenings. I have attached the press release below, which includes information on West Nile and the testing that was done here.

Please visit the library on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 if you would like to borrow any of these actual passes or even just look at the brochures and maps to plan your next excursion.
Retreat Farm – Located next to the Grafton Village Cheese Store in Brattleboro, you can lead sheep to pasture, frolic with the goats, make cheese, collect eggs and gather herbs as you explore our learning center, forest playground, children’s garden and farm shop. With 9 miles of trails, outdoor activities and special events for all ages, there is always something to do, see and experience at Retreat Farm.
As a center for farm-based education, Retreat Farm is committed to providing high-quality, affordable educational programming through our Children’s Farm & Forest program. Launched in 2017, this Program is designed to instill a love of the natural world through farming, play, and hands-on exploration.

Greetings Windham Residents!!!
It’s that time of year again, and the Green Up Bags have arrived!
Green Up Day is this coming Saturday May 5th. We will have refreshments when you pick up your bags at town office anytime after 9am.
It is tick season so please remember the following:
Wear light colored clothing
Long sleeve shirts and long pants
Use insect repellent
Also don’t forget gloves to protect against sharp objects.
If you are unable to join us on the 5th, bags and sign-up sheet will be available at Town Office prior to Saturday during regular office hours: Monday 12-8pm, Tuesday 6-10am, and Wednesday 10-2pm the week.

Chris Fisher Multimedia Presentation “Southern Africa”
JUST A QUICK REMINDER! Come watch a magical presentation that will transport you to the fascinating world of Southern Africa. Come take a Sunday afternoon vacation, and be transported 7,868 miles away to see stunning photographs taken by Windham part-time resident Chris Fisher.
SUNDAY, APRIL 29 at 4 PM at the Windham Meeting House, Chris Fisher will present a multimedia show titled “SOUTHERN AFRICA”
This presentation combines photographs from two trips Chris Fisher, a part-time Windham resident, and his wife, Diane, took to Southern Africa. Chris will take you through the countries of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa, as you view big game animals, birds, flowers, scenery and the culture that make up this fascinating place. This show includes both music and narration combined in a professional multimedia presentation which you are sure to enjoy.
This program is hosted by the Windham Community Organization, and is free and open to all. Popcorn and lemonade will be served.
