Friday May 5th @ 6pm   THE ECONOMICS OF HAPPINESS  film screening with Doreen Fabiano and Carlene Lindgren

This award-winning documentary spells out the social, spiritual and ecological costs of today’s global economy and makes a strong case for localization. Doreen and Carlene, local activists for the environment and other important issues facing our world today will be hosting the screening of this 68 minute film – with discussion to follow.

Tuesdays  May 16, 23 and 30  THE SPRING GARDENING SERIES presented by the Windham County EMG

May 16th @2pm   Woodland Gardens with Cheryl Wilfong

Cheryl is the author of several articles and books about gardening. Her own gardens incorporate a wide variety of woodland plants in both shady, partially-shaded and sunny spots.

May 23rd @10am  Landscaping with Native Plants with Bob Little Tree Butler

Little Tree, a Windsor County EMG returns to share his knowledge of native plants, especially good alternatives to some plants classified as invasives. He has extensive information about maintaining balance in our gardens and landscapes.

May 30 @ 2pm  Garden Tools with Somara Zwick

Somara, a Windham County EMG will bring a few of her favorite garden tools and invites you to bring one or two of your favorites as well. Or possibly you have a “mystery” tool which you need identification. We will share our thought about what equipment we find helpful in our gardens and talk about how to care for them so that they last throughout the seasons.

Thursdays  May 19-June 22nd  6-7pm  TAI CHI with Doreen Fabiano

Originally conceived as a martial art, Tai Chi offers excellent health benefits. The practice aids in fall prevention, balance and is good for overall healthcare. If you ever wanted to try Tai Chi – now is your opportunity.

Thursday May 25th @ 11:15am PLANTING & USING MEDICINAL HERBS AND WEEDS with Lini Mazumdar

Medicinal plants and medicinal weeds have been used since ancient times to either cure of lessen symptoms from illness. Lini, owner of Lotus Moon Medicinals at Anjali Farm is an herbalist certified by the Southwestern School of Botanical Medicine. She will talk about various medicinal herbs which you may want to include in your garden – and discuss how to use them.

Thursday June 1st @2pm PEDORTHICS FOR SUMMER FOOTWEAR with Gretchen Lima

According to The Pedorthic Footwear Association’s web-site, “Pedorthics is the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating and adjusting pedorthic devices.” Pedorthics uses footwear to ease and treat food-related problems. Gretchen Lima, a Certified Pedorthist will discuss how to modify summer footwear – such as sports shoes and hiking wear – to help you maintain or regain mobility.

Friday June 2nd @6pm MOVIE TIME: Where to Invade Next  Encore Performance

First shown here April 7th – the crowd loved it and many who could not come have asked for an encore performance. This epic movie is unlike anything Michael Moore, the political provocateur has ever done. It is an expansive, hilarious and subversive comedy/documentary in which Moore confronts the most pressing issues facing America today and finds solutions in the most unlikely places. This is an eye-opening call to arms to recapture the American Dream ad restore it to, of all places, America.

Saturday  June 10th @9:30am  WINDHAM COUNTY EMG PLANT SALE TO BENEFIT SABBATH HOUSE

The Weston Priory donated The House of Sabbath, located on Route 100 in Weston, to Neighborhood Connections a few years ago for use as transitional housing for our clients. The Windham County Extension Master Gardeners last year accepted the property as a community project. Plans call for renovating the existing gardens and installing a community vegetable garden. This plant sale, to be held at Neighborhood Connections will go toward these goals. Stay tuned for more information and a request for plant donations……..

Wednesday  June 21st 4-9pm SPAGHETTI DINNER @ JAKE’S BENEFITING NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTIONS

Tad Kinsley, owner of Jake’s Restaurant and Tavern once again offers a Spaghetti Dinner with 100% of the proceeds going to Neighborhood Connections. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. Included is a tossed salad, spaghetti and Jake’s signature sauce, choice of  meatballs or sausage, homemade Italian bread and homemade brownies. Beverages are not included. Jake’s is located in Londonderry’s Mountain Marketplace.
