We Want You for Vermont Bird Surveys

We Want You for Vermont Bird Surveys
We’re looking for a few skilled birders to conduct breeding bird surveys in Vermont for two different long-term avian monitoring programs: the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) and the Vermont Forest Bird Monitoring Program (FBMP). Celebrating 50 years, the BBS is North America’s longest-running breeding bird monitoring study. In Vermont, there are 23 routes, and four need volunteers. The FBMP began nearly 30 years ago with the goal of tracking long-term population trends of interior forest birds. Among our 30 study sites in forested lands scattered around the state, two need volunteers. If you can identify Vermont birds by sight and sound, we want you for citizen science! Contact Steve Faccio (sfaccio@vtecostudies.org) for more information.

Fish & Wildlife Dept Holds Workshops on Conservation Resources Mapping Tool

Town Planners, Conservation Commissioners, Members of the Public Encouraged to Attend

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is holding a series of free workshops on using the recently updated online mapping tool, BioFinder. The workshops are aimed at town planners and conservation commissioners, but all members of the public are encouraged to attend.

BioFinder is a mapping resource used to find the places in Vermont most important for maintaining biodiversity, even as the climate changes. It includes maps of Vermont’s connected forests and waterways, locations of important ecological resources, and other information used for conservation and land use planning.
